If you've been online in the last two weeks, you've probably seen it —
the cockroach. On Instagram. On X. On your cousin's WhatsApp status.
Everywhere.
Welcome to the Cockroach Janta Party — India's most viral political
satire movement of 2026.
## What is the Cockroach Janta Party?
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a satirical online movement founded
on 16 May 2026 by Abhijeet Dipke, a political communications strategist
based at Boston University and former Aam Aadmi Party member.
The name is a deliberate parody of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP). Where BJP stands for "Bharatiya Janata Party," CJP stands for
"Cockroach Janta Party" — the people's cockroach party.
## How Did It Start?
On 15 May 2026, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant made remarks during
a Supreme Court hearing comparing unemployed youth and critics of
institutions to "cockroaches" and "parasites of society."
The internet did what the internet does best — it turned the insult
into an identity.
Within 24 hours, the hashtag #MainBhiCockroach (I too am a cockroach)
was trending across Instagram and X. By 16 May, Abhijeet Dipke had
launched the official CJP Instagram page, complete with a logo,
manifesto, meme pack, and a Google form for sign-ups.
Eligibility criteria? "Unemployed, lazy, chronically online, ability
to rant professionally."
## How Viral Did It Get?
Very. Historically viral.
- 21.9 million Instagram followers in under 5 days
- Surpassed BJP's 9.3 million followers and Congress pages combined
- 350,000+ sign-ups via Google form in 72 hours
- Covered by CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, Forbes, NBC News, The Guardian
- Indian Youth Congress launched a counter-campaign: "Ha, hum hai cockroach"
- Trinamool Congress leaders Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee
expressed public support
## What Does "Main Bhi Cockroach" Mean?
"Main Bhi Cockroach" translates to "I too am a cockroach."
It became the defining slogan of the movement — a declaration of
solidarity with ordinary Indians who feel ignored, underestimated,
and disrespected by institutions, yet keep surviving despite every
obstacle thrown at them.
The cockroach, famously resilient and near-impossible to eliminate,
became the perfect mascot for frustrated Indian youth.
## What Does the CJP Stand For?
The movement campaigns around five core demands:
1. No Rajya Sabha seats for retired Chief Justices
2. UAPA prosecution for vote deletion
3. 50% women's reservation in Parliament and Cabinet
4. Cancel media licences owned by Ambani and Adani
5. 20-year ban on political defectors
## Why Did Gen Z Connect With It?
The CJP perfectly matched how India's Gen Z communicates — through
humour, sarcasm, memes, and layered irony that carries real emotion
underneath. Instead of aggressive protest, the movement responded to
institutional contempt with wit.
Underneath the jokes: genuine anger about unemployment, exam paper
leaks, corruption, rising costs, and a political system that seems
deaf to youth concerns.
