Delhi is on high alert, the country is watching, and the cockroaches are coming. Here's everything we know about CJP's October 10 "Dilli Chalo" protest, updated on October 9, 2026.
The Call: "Dilli Chalo" on October 10
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has called supporters from across India to Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The target is Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The call builds on a week of momentum. CJP held a large protest at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on October 2, followed by a rally in Bengaluru on October 8. CJP says seven major protests took place across the country between October 2 and October 7.
CJP's Three "Non-Negotiable" Demands
According to Outlook India, CJP has put three demands on the table:
- Resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the start of criminal proceedings against him.
- A freeze on SIR, suspension of upcoming elections, restoration of the January 2025 voters' list, and an independent inquiry.
- Repeal of the 2023 law governing Election Commission appointments, in favour of an independent and credible selection process.
Co-convener Saurav Das has said the movement will not stop even if Kumar resigns, because the group wants wider reforms in the Election Commission. His message to supporters was blunt: pack your bags, because it will be a long fight.
Who Is Backing the Protest?
This is not only a CJP event. At a joint press conference on October 7, representatives of AISA, AISF, SFI and the AAP student wing ASAP backed the call for a united mobilisation. AISA president Neha Bora is co-leading the preparations and said the student campaign and the Opposition's protests share a common objective.
The INDIA bloc has also been protesting on the same issue. Opposition MPs, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were detained by Delhi Police during marches this week and later released.

Dhruv Rathee Joins the Fight in Bengaluru 🪳
The biggest surprise of the week came on October 8 at Freedom Park, Bengaluru. Ahead of the Delhi march, CJP held a "People's Tribunal" on SIR, where residents who say they were wrongly removed from the voters' list could share their experiences, followed by a "Chappal Protest". CJP said the chappal protest was in solidarity with women journalists who alleged harassment during the Delhi demonstrations. Those allegations are still under investigation and have not been established as findings.
The "special guest" turned out to be YouTuber and commentator Dhruv Rathee. Founder Abhijeet Dipke revealed him in a video message on the eve of the protest. Actor Prakash Raj introduced him as a voice with a spine, and said it was Rathee's first time in Bengaluru. Rathee confirmed on X with a short post signing off "Jai Hind". Alongside them at the protest were Left leaders Aishe Ghosh and Neha Bora, along with student groups, civil society members and people from different parts of Karnataka.
Rathee has built his reputation mostly through videos and digital platforms rather than street protests, which is why his appearance drew so much attention. For millions of young Indians who learn about politics through his explainers, seeing him at a protest was a statement in itself.
In the video, Rathee also urged young people to join the Jantar Mantar protest on October 10. So far, reports confirm his support for the Delhi call, but not that he will be there in person.
What Is Delhi Police Saying?
Here is where things get tense, so we are sticking to what has been reported.
- Intimation vs. permission: CJP says it handed a written intimation to Parliament Street police station on October 7 and received an acknowledgement. Das has said Delhi Police has no role in granting "permission". NewsBytes reports that Delhi Police has turned down CJP's request to hold the protest at Jantar Mantar.
- Heavy deployment: NDTV, as reported by Outlook, says about 23,000 CAPF personnel and 20,000 Delhi Police personnel will be deployed. Border checks, multi-layered barricades and facial recognition cameras are planned.
- Restrictions: Sources told NDTV that Section 163 of the BNSS will be in force and that Metro stations and markets in the New Delhi area could be closed if required. Outlook also reports a proposal to close 57 Metro stations.
- Allegations of pressure: CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke says activists in places like Chandrapur received police notices asking them not to attend.
Dipke's reply was that if police stop them, wherever they are stopped will become their Jantar Mantar. The party insists the protest will be peaceful.
